Barbus Choloensis

We want to protect everything at Mwabvi, big and small. The Reserve has two endangered endemic creatures - the double barred Sand Grouse and the Barbus Choloensis. The information we have was given to us by Dennis Tweddle, more data is available from the sources quoted below or please contact us for details of the locations.

Barbus Choloensis is a small fish that is found in the Mwabvi Gorge. It is classified as vunerable by the IUCN Red List.  It's endemic to Malawi and according to research conducted by Tweddle and Willoughby (1979) it can be found in the Mwabvi River.  "Barbus choloensis is very similar to the southern African barb B. crocodilensis, which in current literature is incorrectly given as a synonym of Barbus argenteus from Angola. We split them in the southern Africa red data list" (Tweddle 2010).
