Fires are started naturally or by man every year
We are constructing 2 new roads into the reserve to help us locate, access and extinguish bush fires faster. Last summer fires spread through over 25% of the reserve over a 3 month period.
Here you can see a brave team fighting a bush fire, some wearing no shoes, and using green vegetation to try to damp down the undergrowth. This fire was almost certainly started deliberately by poachers who want to improve visibility and cut down cover for animals.
