Welcome to the website of the Project African Wilderness Trust!
We're up and running with our new websites - this one for the Trust in the UK and now our colleagues in Malawi have one especially for their the conservation work!
Project African Wilderness (PAW)
PAW is an organisation formed to protect and restore the Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve in the Nsanje District of Southern Malawi.
Mwabvi (pronounced mu-avi) is one of 9 National Parks and Wildlife Reserves in Malawi. Find out where we are here
The PAW Trust
is an international charity based in the UK. We are here to:
- fundraise and support the conservation work at Mwabvi
- promote conservation and the environment
- provide education in conservation activity.
We are working with PAW colleagues in Malawi, with local people and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to ensure that the beautiful wilderness area is protected for the future, and to reintroduce the Black Rhino and other large animals that used to live there.
PAW in Malawi
We work alongside the conservation team, who have their own website. Find out more about our conservation work from our colleagues in Malawi here.
The PAW Trust is not only a conservation organisation - money that we raise is also used to fund work like new boreholes for clean safe water supplies, that will benefit the 60,000 people who live around the Reserve and allow them to improve their own livelihoods.
We are also linking our conservation work with conservation education for local and international visitors and improved job opportunities for local people. We are already putting money into local businesses, and providing training to work as part of our growing team.
We are committed to work at Mwabvi for 35 years or more, and our plans are for the long term. There’s plenty happening right now so explore the site to find out what we’re doing and how you can get involved.
