New Faces at Mwabvi Volunteers at Mwabvi

We're pleased at the growth in visitors and volunteers to Mwabvi this year. It all started with the Ambassador visit in February but with the completion of the Lodge, and of course the arrival of the lion cubs, far more people have found their way there this summer.

Dave Midgley, a long time PAW supporter, spent four weeks volunteering at Mwabvi.  While he was there he played an important role in setting up English lessons with the staff and taught Romeo and Juliet at local schools. It is their set play this year, and he does like a challenge! Dave is now back in the UK.

Rebecca Kinnard, a University of Manchester student, is also staying at Mwabvi this summer to research the impact of, and potential for, eco-tourism at Mwabvifor her Master's dissertation.

Francesca and Linda arrived in June for a short volunteering experience organised through Africa Wild Truck   (AWT). They stayed and helped for a week, left us with many tears in their eyes and a hope to return next year with small things like cloths for our orphans and even solar panels to help run our office more efficiently. We are expecting two more volunteers from AWT in the near future.

Guy has been helping out for a few weeks and travels back to the UK with Rebecca at the end of July.

Bastiaan, a South African student, is volunteering with us for several months starting in August so we'll let you know how he gets on.

Moran and BarryAnd great excitement, we've had a TV crew there filming for a new educational series to be shown on UK's BBC1 in November. Can't say more right now but we'll let you know nearer the tiime.

Stef from AWT has sent us some great shots of the lion cubs. Moran and Amayi continue to grow - see the picture to the right. In case you were wondering, Moran is standing on his day shelter - he's not that tall already!

You can see more photos on our new Flickr link below, and the AWT Flickr pages.

The Little Things at Mwabvi

Mwabvi is home to barbus choloensis  which can be found in the Mwabvi River, according to researcher Denis Tweddle.  The barbus choloensis is classified as vunerable by the IUCN Red List.
