New veterinary centre under construction
Moran's sudden illness and untimely death while on the way to the veterinarian hospital at Blantyre - two hours drive away - made us realise that if we were going to be able to care for animals in sickness as well as in health we needed to have facilities close at hand.
With this in mind Barry has decided to construct a veterinary centre at Chipembere Camp. This will provide facilities for storing drugs and medical equipment, for quarantining sick animals and a small operating theatre. This will mean that if any of our animals are taken ill in the future a vet will be able to treat them and if necessary operate without having to put them through the rigours of the drive all the way to Blantyre.
Building is already underway, and should be complete by the time Sanka, Sya and Shiro, the three new cubs donated by Kevin Richardson's Lion Kingdom , arrive at Mwabvi in May.
